The Water Warriors Steady Stream is a unique pump-based soaker that also sports a spring-based pressure chamber. While there is no trigger, thus meaning each pump releases a stream, the Water Warriors Steady Stream possesses a separate pressure chamber that allow this soaker to fulfil its name. This novel technology offers very good blaster performance and interesting possibilities for future blaster designs.

The Blaster ::

iS Water Warriors steadystream_16_100Nozzle / Firing Chamber ::

The Steady Stream features a single, standard-sized nozzle that yields a good, well-laminated stream. Unlike other piston-based soakers, the Steady Stream possesses a spring-based separate firing chamber. As there is no trigger or nozzle valve, any water that enters the firing chamber is quickly expelled out of the nozzle. However, this brief added push allows the stream to continue in-between pumps if the user is pumping quickly enough. It should be noted that the inclusion of the firing chamber does slightly reduce the power of each stroke as part of the stroke energy is transferred into ciS Water Warriors steadystream_17_100ompressing the spring as opposed to creating the stream. This loss is minimal is the benefit of an extended shot time outweighs the slight loss of initial stream power. Additional rapid pumping will compress the spring a little more, but due to the lack of a nozzle valve, the pressure chamber quickly empties as soon as pumping is stopped.

iS Water Warriors steadystream_15_100Pump ::

The pump on the Steady Stream is on the smaller side for a piston-based blaster, but works well for this blaster. The pump's intake is well positioned and is able to maximize use of its reservoir while its grip is comfortable to hold.

iS Water Warriors steadystream_19_100Grip ::

The grip area is minimal, but functional. As with other piston-based soakers, there is no trigger. Unlike many other Water Warriors soakers, the Steady Stream has an open grip region, meaning that those with larger hands will be able to hold this blaster without feeling constrained. The grip features an adequate amount of texturing to allow for easy gripping even when wet.

iS Water Warriors steadystream_18_100The Reservoir ::

The reservoir on the Steady Stream is top mounted and features a minimalist snap-top tethered cap. Its general shape allows one to easily completely fill the reservoir with water. However, the snap-cap is not as water-tight as standard screw-caps and may also dribble if the blaster is left on its side. The inside of the reservoir is nicely moulded with the intake for the pump at the bottom of the reservoir with the rest of the inside sloping towards the intake. This design allows for virtually all water within the reservoir to be used.

Overall ::

As a whole, the Water Warriors Steady Stream is true to its name, being the first stock piston-based soaker with the capability to produce a solid stream if one pumps at a good, but not overly excessive rate. The spring-based pressure chamber is fun to watch, but more importantly, the streams produced by the Steady Stream work well for a blaster of this size. However, maximum stream size and output are limited by the nozzle size and total pump volume. Thus, while this blaster can hold out well against other soakers of similar sizes, a Steady Stream user should remain wary of larger soakers.

Pros

Novel technology allows for the production of a solid stream from a piston-based blaster. Simple design, light, clean lines, and good feel to the soaker. Design allows for maximal use of its full water capacity.

Cons

Pump volume limited. Nozzle size is average for a blaster this size, but on the smaller scale of the average blaster. Reservoir volume decent, but could have been easily increased if the blaster design were not confined to be flat. No strap.

Review:

This gun is very capable of getting a thin stream to hit someone with good force. However, it lacks as sustainable a stream as its name indicates. The stream is not that steady which is why you have to keep pumping. as long as the person is not facing heavy competition it is a very good gun, but once super soaker wielding foes come within range, it's a little unsettling to be holding the gun that needs a lot of pumping and whose stream is short-lived. between the six and ten dollar range is reasonable. Oh, and the cap that is supposed to keep the water inside is not very effective and the gun can leak.

Editor's Note: The Steady Stream can produce a solid stream of water, but only if the user pumps this blaster rapidly enough. Otherwise, it will behave like other piston blasters, produing streams only as quickly as it is pumped.
