The Nerf Super Soaker Assault Bunker is a water war accessory under the Nerf Super Soaker brand released in 2012. The package comes with both the Nerf Super Soaker Assault Bunker and a Nerf Super Soaker Soaker Burst.
The Bunker
Shielding ::
The Nerf Super Soaker Assault Bunker is an inflatable water warfare shielding device. As the box states, it is meant to be an "Inflatable Pool Assault Bunker". The back side of the box states it is a "Defendable shelter from aqua attacks". The fact it is meant for use in a pool explains its rather low profile and wider bottom half which is meant to float on the surface of the water. Of course, many may wonder what the point is to protect oneself from getting hit by a water stream when one's lower half is already immersed in water, but that is another story. The primary shielding portion of the bunker, like the Nerf Super Soaker Battle Shield, has a fair number of holes on it, limiting its coverage.
The Nerf Super Soaker Assault Bunker is inflated via two ports: one fills the base of the bunker while the other fills the clear upper portion. Both halves of the bunker require a fair amount of air; using an air pump is highly recommended as opposed to trying to fill things oneself. It is a little difficult, though, to know when the bunker should be considered fully inflated as some parts seem to inflate faster than others and concerns over possibly stretches and breaking some of the seams come to mind.
There is a window-type area in the upper portion of the front part of the bunker that allows for slightly clearer viewing while being somewhat protected. However, the water water actually flows upon striking objects, the holes in the shield with the fact that they taper outwards actually increases the effective area of the hole, making one more easily hit though behind the bunker. Though the holes were added to be "fair", their size and number really make the effectiveness of this bunker very low.
The "Soaker Burst"::
The Nerf Super Soaker Battle Shield package comes with a "Soaker Burst" device. This item is a little larger than an average tennis ball and, at first glance, appears to be a football-shaped object. Upon closer inspection, one will see that this foam device has 30 holes drilled into it. The Nerf Super Soaker Soaker Burst is supposed to act as a sort of reuseable water-balloon-type device. It is meant to be dunked into water to fill, the hurled at one's desired target. The material the Soaker Burst is made of does not appear to be able to absorb or dispense much water, itself, thus its water retaining and dispensing capability relies primarily on its distribution of holes. As these holes are permanently open, they will dribble out water if the Soaker Burst is placed on dry ground.
Overall ::
Overall, the Nerf Super Soaker Assault Bunker is a theoretically interesting water warfare accessory that ends up not really doing what one would hope a bunker for water warfare should do. Its rather small overall size means it really can only be used in a pool or, at best, where there is already a partial wall. With all the holes in the front and sides, it offers little to no actual protection and may simply serve to give the defender a false sense of security. Perhaps useful if only using the Soaker Bursts, the Nerf Super Soaker Assault Bunker offers no useful protection in a true water war.
Pros
Inflatable bunker is light and straightforward to use. Soaker Burst device re-useable and non-messy as opposed to one-time-use water balloons
Cons
Holes in the bunker limits its protective capabilities. Its short height and the fact that it is meant to be used in a pool makes one wonder why hide behind a bunker when one's lower half is already soaked. Soaker Burst has limited soaking capabilities and must be retrieved after being thrown.
