The Water Warriors Steady Stream 2 is the new pump-based water blaster released for 2012 by Buzz Bee Toys Inc. It is a redesign of the original Water Warriors Steady Stream (2007), albeit a touch shorter in length and height. In essence, the nozzle, body, and grip areas of the Water Warriors Steady Stream and the Water Warriors Steady Stream 2 are identical; the difference in length and height come primarily from a change in reservoir shape.

The Blaster ::

Nozzle ::

water_warriors_steady_stream2_15_100The water_warriors_steady_stream2_16_100Water Warriors Steady Stream 2, like the original Water Warriors Steady Stream, features a single nozzle capable of producing a good, solid stream. Streams made by the Water Warriors Steady Stream 2 have a good heft to them and provide a respectable level of soaking power. Due to the spring-based mechanism used by this blaster, streams tend to be more consistent in performance compared to pure piston-based blasters. That said, while pumping too slowly will result in poor stream performance, pumping more forcefully does not have the same level of effect as with piston-only-based blasters, but then again, piston-only-based blasters cannot produce a consistent stream the water the original Water Warriors Steady Stream and the Water Warriors Steady Stream 2 can. To produce a constant stream, one simple needs to pump quickly enough and the spring-based mechanism stores enough energy and water to continue stream production during the time it takes to pull the pump out to refill it with water before pumping out again.

Pump ::

water_warriors_steady_stream2_18_100The Water Warriors Steady Stream 2, like the original Water Warriors Steady Stream, has a forward-mount pump. Pumping is smooth and easy. The pump grip, itself, freely rotates around its axis. As such, one must take a little care not to rotate the grip too far that it ends up contacting the base for the forward-portion of the blaster when pumping. This should not be a particularly onerous problem, but it is something to keep in mind.

Grip ::

water_warriors_steady_stream2_17_100Being a pump-based water blaster, the Water Warriors Steady Stream 2 has no need of a trigger and only required a point for one's hand to grip. Identical to the Water Warriors Steady Stream, the Water Warriors Steady Stream 2's grip is comfortable to hold with some texturing and is open, meaning that even larger hards will be able to grip it without space restriction found on some other Water Warriors water blaster designs.

The Reservoir ::

water_warriors_steady_stream2_18_100The reservoir on the Water Warriors Steady Stream 2 holds less water than the Water Warriors Steady Stream, being slightly smaller in overall size, but still offers a decent volume for use in the field. The reservoir, itself, is accessed through a simple flip-cap. While the cap offers a decent seal, it is not recommended to leave a filled blaster on its side for prolonged periods of time. The inside of the reservoir is nicely moulded with the intake for the pump at the bottom of the reservoir with the rest of the inside sloping towards the intake. This design allows for virtually all water within the reservoir to be used.

Overall ::

As a whole, the Water Warriors Steady Stream 2, like the Water Warriors Steady Stream, remains true to its name, being a piston-based soaker with the capability to produce a solid stream if one pumps at a quick, but not overly excessive rate. The spring-based pressure chamber is fun to watch, but more importantly, the streams produced by the Water Warriors Steady Stream 2 work well for a blaster of this size. Be wary, though, as, maximum stream size and output are limited by the nozzle size and total pump volume. While this blaster can hold out well against other soakers of similar sizes, a Water Warriors Steady Stream 2 user should remain wary of larger soakers, particularly those with larger output capable nozzle settings..

Pros

Novel technology allows for the production of a solid stream from a piston-based blaster. Simple design, light, clean lines, and good feel to the soaker. Design allows for maximal use of its full water capacity.

Cons

Pump volume limited. Reservoir volume decent, but could have been easily increased if the blaster design were not confined to be flat. No strap.

This gun is almost exactly the same as the original Steady Stream. It just has a slightly different, cooler looking shape. This is probably the best piston/elastic hybrid available. When you pump, water shoots out like a normal piston gun, but if you pump it fast enough, water will shoot out constantly, and it will continue to shoot out for a moment after you stop pumping. It's pretty awesome. This gun would make a good backup since you don't have to pump it up. If you like piston guns, I would recommend picking this up.
