The Super Soaker Aqua Squirtz Manta Ray is one of the three boat-shaped blasters produced by Hasbro Inc. in 2004, targetting the 3-5 year old market. Each of the Aqua Squirtz comes with a detachable figure and can be played with both with and without water thanks to its overall toy boat shape. Being aimed at small kids, the range, payload, and output of this blaster are rather limited, but considering this may be many kids' first water blaster, it does perform rather well.
The Manta Ray, itself, is a solid toy with many colourful designs to show off its boat-shape nature. Its shape is a welcome change for many parents who do not like the thought of their young kids playing with gun-shaped toys. The reservoir is small, but this also means kids won't be doing too much damage should they manage to fill these toys up inside the house and run around playing with them. The reservoir does, however, feature a Fast-Fill cap, meaning the cap does not need to be completely removed if being filled from a hose; instead, one just must rotate the cap to line up the arrow with the 'Fill' position indicated. Unfortunately, if the water pressure is not strong enough, the Fast-Fill cap does not operate as intended.
Performance-wise, the Manta Ray behaves like a Super Soaker XP 215. Even if initially depressurized, if the trigger is held down while pumping at a decent speed, the Manta Ray will produce a decent-sized stream. Of course, pre-pumping the blaster yield a more potent stream, but ease of use is important as younger children may not at first appreciate the notion of having to pump a blaster before they can spray water.
Overall, the Super Soaker Aqua Squirtz Manta Ray is a cute, small children's water toy. While not recommended for use by older users in full-scale water battles, the Manta Ray is a good first-soaker.
Pros
Small, light, easy to pump. Boat shape and removeable action figure means toy can be played with even in the absence of water. Non-gun shaped.
Cons
Limited water supply and range. Most above 10 years of age would feel embarassed to use a boat-shaped blaster.
